doktu rhute muuzic (formerly roy hytower) has enjoyed a full career from his late teens to this present day, a career that spans over 50 years. his first experiences were singing around mobile, alabama. in 1962 he came to chicago, replacing mighty joe young as rhythm guitarist for otis rush. often adopting a soul-slanted sound, hytower cut a handful of 45rpm singles in the 1960s and 70s for several local labels such as avin, expo, brainstorm, and jiffy. in june 2016 his tune “song of deliverance” was featured on tramp’s “peace chant- compilation. in recent years roy hytower has self-released a couple of cds, however under his new moniker, doktu rhute muuzic. “i’m in your corner” and “tip jar” were released on two different cd albums. this is the only chance to get these two wonderful tunes on vinyl. don’t miss it!

this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!

passion for jazz and soul music. reekee, a remarkable young and talented artist from modena (italy) not only plays the keys as an extention of his mind but his true and pure sound makes you feel warm and connected from first notes. a mixture of broken beats with soulful melodies & analog drummin and reminds early mr. fingers tracks. you often get a nu-jazz feeling and can clearly hear the jazz influences between the funky house beats. because it s so difficult to describe the feeling you get listening to his music, you should hear it yourse.

jake one’s discography reads like a who’s who list of some of the greatest and most successful artists in the history of hip hop. that’s what makes him truly unique. blurring the lines between the underground and overground. providing sonic backdrops for such incredible emcees as de la soul, scarface, freeway, mf doom, evidence, casual, elzhi, brother ali, and rakim among others, but polishing that same formula and providing records for the likes of drake, rick ross, t.i., 50 cent, snoop dogg, j cole, wale, dom kennedy, and royce 5’9”, jake one is one of the exceptions that has worked equally with both of these sides of the industry. exceptionally. “prayer hands”, a collection of instrumentals created from gospel sources, includes some of those recordings amongst others that all remind you that jake one has pretty much become the go-to producer for any major artist that wants some real hip hop shit on their album. and understandably so.

flumos mainstay ekkohaus returns, this time bringing a full-bodied package for the dance floor. suitably, far fetcher acts as a warm welcome, inviting the listener inside its richly deep analogue soundscapes, reminiscent of deeper sides of classic house rhythms that have come from the usa. its pace provides a perfect way to start off the ep while the synth-vocal creates a soulful depth. things get darker and more aggressive with musketeers, a dub-heavy rhythm that drives one to involuntary movement due to its relentless repetition and & subtle swing. the amalgamation of the synth along with the pulsating sub invigorates one to move and bounce along with these elements. fantasy provides the penultimate party vibe. it s funkiness transcends & the melodies drive the vocals to the extent of ecstasy. rounding off the ep 64 bars features vocals by arthur russel, the synth inflicted break progressions capture the vibe of ekkohaus live sets with its haunting chants hinting towards techno and while its warmth never escapes.

there’s much to be said for chance meetings. vitruvians – in their words, “a meeting of minds, cultures, styles and experiences, powered by music, and designed by faith” – owe their very existence to once such random encounter.
in the summer of 2014, producers frankie valentine and thomas “t-ash” sciurpa bumped into each other in a london shoe shop. over a fine selection of brogues and loafers, the conversation drifted onto music. the duo quickly realized they had much in common, and a plan began to form: they would get together and make music as vitruvians, using the alias as a vehicle for their collaborative work.

funk was the syncopated groove that emerged in the mid-sixties through hits from james brown and dyke and the blazers. it was a natural development out of rhythm and blues. thousands of local bands tried to emulate brown’s success, and in the process created a plethora of rare and sought after 45s and album cuts that have been mined by djs and producers to fill floors or provide breakbeats. whilst the 20 tracks on this compilation would cost you thousands of pounds to own on their original issue, that isn’t really the point. instead you get to listen to magnificent grooves such as mickey & the soul generations explosive ‘iron leg’, andrew brown’s blues tinged ‘you made me suffer’ or the message music of 24 carat black.

in safe hands: this is a hard bass-driven industrial kick-drum groove which meets some carefully placed vocal loops and a piercing high synth shot which gives the track a distinct warehouse party vibe. this track is going to detonate those dance floors!
acid future: this is the first time a squelchy acid line has ever featured on a hydraulix release. a tough rumbling reverberated drumbeat, firing on all cylinders with a squelchy 303 sat on top. it’s even got a voice and some reversed bits of 303! what more could you ask for?

for over five years, all day i dream has been where deep and emotive meet house music. propelled by a community of forward thinking artists drawn around the scion of master curator and sunset/sunrise set specialist, lee burridge. all day i dream formally welcomes lost desert to the label with the release of lingala, a two-track collaborative effort with burridge himself, that also features junior on vocals. lost desert was picked out of obscurity after burridge discovered his music while trekking in a remote area of a long lost land. a fast forged friendship inevitably lead to the studio, and lingala’s the enrapturing sophomore result. the duo’s first project together debuted on lee’s night time imprint, get weird, earlier this year to widespread support. lingala, is a beautifully composed ten-minute sonic journey. built around a mystical lead vocal sung by newcomer junior in his native linagles the raw emotion slowly builds in intensity over propulsive basslines and deep melodic grooves . gorje hewek & izhevski’s interpretation of lingala is a markedly different affair. focussing on musical layers rather than the vocal the duo’s signature spacey atmospheres and minimal rhythmic percussion add extra strings creating uplifting moments that contrast the original’s mood.

after “theory of strings (part1)” ennio colaci and fabio della torre present the second part! the first track of a-side is the one who gives the title to the whole project, - theory of strings-, a dubby groover with a funky and psychedelic feel in the vein of a more coloured and dirtier studio 1 or soundhack. the -feeling good vibe- keeps going relaxed and chill with the smart up and down mood of the track -forty degrees- while on b side minimono get drier, minimalistic and more mysterious with the subtle after-hour jam of rewind. this strong effort by fabio and ennio ends trough the cinematic atmosphere and the romantic piano notes of the gentle but raw closing act -still mine-. mind the strings!

one of stockholm’s best-kept secrets is now out of the closet. with no information on the artist, what we get is two rumbling techno tracks with a cause. “grounded theory” builds on a ground loop layered with a bellish sequence, percussion and stabby hits. “furious dub” is a dubby take, made up by filtered chords and a bassline with an offbeat lfo. both tracks are aimed to make you move. it’s your body, you decide!

sweet addiction is yuksek’s great studio comeback. its 5 elegant tracks signal his return as a main player. the maxi, which prefigures a 3rd album, features the greek singer monika (make it easy) and the duo her (on the1st single, sweet addiction). yuksek’s characteristic sound, midway between post-disco, house and pop, shines through on its various tracks. even more than on his last album, living on the edge of time, yuksek shows his talent as a singer. his new melodies are sunnier than before, his beats and production more subtle. airy, but still conveying a touch of hedonism in its most club-friendly sounds, this ep is a foretaste of a sparkling new opus. bio : at the start of the 2000s, yuksek released a series of maxis and then two albums: away from the sea (2009) and living on the edge of time (2011).those records laid the foundations of a sound that uncompromisingly combined pop, disco and electro. then in 2013, he set up his own label: partyfine. it is now home to artists such as clarens, weekend affair, get a room!, jean tonique, juveniles,tepr and villa.
